The coat of arms

The coat of arms symbolises belonging to a country. In the past, they indicated belonging to a family and these family crests were worn on a shield during tournaments, or on a banner when going off to war.

What can you see on the Luxembourg coat of arms? A red lion with a crown on it’s head, on a blue and white background. The lion symbolises courage and power. The crown is the sign of the king's power and authority. Red, blue and white are also the colours on our national flag.
